Guè and Rose Villain at Sottosopra Festival 2025: An Authentic and Cinematic Visual Story

On July 13th, 2025, the Sottosopra Festival in Gallipoli became a whirlwind of energy and urban vibes thanks to the electrifying performances of Guè and Rose Villain, two of the most prominent and innovative names in the contemporary Italian music scene. I had the honor of capturing every moment of this magical evening through my camera lens, from the anticipation-filled preshow to the engaged crowd, exploring every nuance of light, shadow, and movement that make this festival an unmissable event.

An Authentic and Cinematic Perspective

My main challenge was to capture not only the images of a concert but the deepest and truest essence of the artists and their audience, through an authentic and deeply cinematic eye. I skillfully alternated between the Nikon D6 — a true workhorse for photography in fast-paced and dynamic lighting conditions — and the Fujifilm X-H2, a nimble and versatile camera perfect for capturing hidden details and intimate backstage moments often less visible but equally significant.

Technique and Art in Every Shot

The play of lights and shadows, the intense colors of the stage, the sharp contrasts, and the charged atmosphere of tension and adrenaline were my playground, where technique and art merged to create a visual narrative that goes beyond mere documentation. The speed of scene changes and the expressiveness of the artists were captured in high-resolution shots, maintaining sharpness even in challenging conditions thanks to careful ISO management and exposure times calibrated to freeze every movement precisely.

From Preparation to the Stage

From the preshow, where the air was thick with anticipation and artists mentally prepared to connect with the crowd, to the vibrant and engaged audience, I wanted to tell the human story behind the performance. Emotions on fans’ faces, spontaneous interactions, and lights reflecting in their eyes are details that immerse the viewer in the event, making them feel part of that special night.

The Choice of Equipment

The decision to alternate between two camera bodies allowed for comprehensive and dynamic coverage: the Nikon D6 expertly handled the fastest sequences and on-stage shots, while the Fujifilm X-H2 was the ideal companion for more artistic shots, with a look that enhances warm tones and gives the images a cinematic, almost painterly feel. The combination of these two technologies created a rich and multifaceted visual narrative.

An Immersive Experience

Each photograph tells a different story but follows a clear thread: the truth of the music, the passion of the artists, and the unstoppable energy of an audience that never stops feeling. This report is not just documentation but a true immersive experience, a visual journey into the beating heart of the Italian urban scene.

Salento in the Spotlight

The Sottosopra Festival 2025, with its unique atmosphere and passionate audience, once again confirms Salento as one of the nerve centers of contemporary music and culture in Italy. Through my images, I want to bring those who could not attend into the magic of that evening, letting them feel the energy, warmth, and intensity of a memorable event.

Technical Details: How I Shot the Live Show

To capture the energy of Guè and Rose Villain, I chose two complementary camera bodies: the Nikon D6, excellent for fast shooting and noise management at high ISO, and the Fujifilm X-H2, perfect for more creative and detailed backstage shots. I used fast lenses such as the 70-200mm f/2.8 to isolate subjects on stage and a 35mm f/1.4 for ambient shots and moments of interaction with the crowd. Exposure was carefully balanced between the strong stage lights and deep shadows, with fast shutter speeds to freeze motion and maintain sharpness.

The Sottosopra Festival: A Unique Stage in Salento

The Sottosopra Festival, held in Gallipoli, is one of the most important and anticipated musical events in the Italian urban scene. Each year it attracts thousands of enthusiasts and major names in rap, hip-hop, and urban music, creating a unique atmosphere that blends music, art, and local culture. The 2025 edition confirmed its role as a key reference point thanks to a top-tier lineup and an engaged audience, making photography the ideal medium to tell this vibrant story.
